The Toasters : Live In Brazil Release Date
CD : MEGA 003 March, 2003
This release was the second for The Toasters on Megalith Records. The album is a live concert in Brazil from 1998. Boasting an awesome line up of members currently in the line up at that time, as well as some special guests that had been recording and touring with the band. This is a collection of some great classic songs and current hits at the time. As always The Toasters never fail to give their all when they perform live and this show is no exception. Some highlights include a little Spiderman diddy by Sledge during his solo at the end of "East Side Beat", Victor Rice on Bass and Dave Waldo on Keyboard, the backbeat rhythm is at its finest. Jack Ruby Jr. is also fairly new to the band at this point as well. You can really feel the energy coming from him in this show. Check out "Ploughshares Into Guns" being my favorite track on this release. If you are any sort of Toasters fan, you need to add this one to your collection. If you have yet to hear them live and want a a unique show to start you off, pick this one up! toasters-brazil-mega-cover

Liner Notes
December 1998. Springtime in Brazil. This was the second time The Toasters have come through. The city of Sao Paulo (the largest in South America and the fourth largest in the world) is reminiscent of the NYC of the early 80's- the group's birthplace. One could tour greater Sao Paulo for weeks without exhausting its venues and audience. But before that could happen, it was off to the small town of Parati, and ancient coffee port on the coast of Rio de Janeiro. There you can hear Brazil- Huge raindrops falling on even bigger leaves, swamps filled with frogs clucking in African polyrhythms, bird calls that sound human. You can also hear the music- Forro, Samba, Bossa, Jazz, Capoeira, Choro, Reggae. Time stopped in Parati. In my opinion The Toasters were permanently affected by that experience, in a subtle way. The effect of The Toasters on Brazil, however, isn't subtle. Having only played a handful of shows a year earlier, they were greeted this time by people who knew the music, the words. They were supported by bands that owe much of their style to The Toasters. Brazil 2000, a commercial radio station in Sao Paulo, now has a weekly Ska show. This recording is the only document of that second tour. For those who know these songs, you will be able to appreciate what a difference an equator makes. For those new to The Toasters, be prepared to dance!

Liner Notes in Portuguese
Dezembro de 1998. Verao no Brasil.
