Fast Food Orchestra? Who are they you ask, well here is your answer...One bad ass ska ragga dancehall reggae band out of the Czech Republic, that's who! I was skeptical at first when Bucket suggested the band to me, mainly cause the name, but once I got the cd and gave it a few spins, I couldn't stop listening to it for weeks. Think Skavoovie and The Epitones meet Mr. Bungle! Great songs with unique sounds and styles, with wonderful musicianship. Not to mention these are a nice bunch of people as well. Always good to have bands that work hard and are nice to deal with on your label.
The album has a certain "flow" that seems to be missing from a lot of releases these days. The record plays more like a live set, than a studio recording. Not through quality, but through transition from tune to tune. This is very apparent with Amor / Ragge / Muffin / Soup, you can even run most the titles of the songs together to make one big song. So it makes sense that these cuts (although very stylistically different from each other) would blend from track to track. At first listen, I didn't realize we had moved through 3 songs until I looked and saw that the track number had changed on the cd player. This is a very cool concept and I know it works well for them in the live setting. This album doesn't give you time to sit and think about what is coming next, because NEXT is already here, and it's name is Fast Food Orchestra! If you want to try the band out, pick up the Megalith Records Label Sampler for their tune Rodolpho, as well as check out the music video in the MEDIA section on the Megalith Records website. You can also pop into iTunes and take a listen as well.
